Powerful yet simple. Why great characters make great stories (and how great actors bring great characters to life!). Eastwood shows us once more why he must be considered a tremendous force in modern cinema.

Two point reduction for a couple of superfluous story lines (e.g. the “Danger” character story and Eastwood’s estranged daughter problem) but otherwise really a 10.

It's really just a great movie. My only nits are: (1) I know Swank *did* come from trailer trash, but she's been in gowns a lot lately, so she wasn't totally believable as TT, and (2) the extra gravelly voice of both Freeman and Eastwood was annoying... it's like they both had something stuck in their throat. Nits, indeed. One other thing: the best performance in this movie is not by Oscar favorites Swank and Freeman; it's by Eastwood.

the end drags

An incredibly well written movie. Great dialoge. A truly emotional stirring movie.

Huge disappointment. It definitely does not deserve to be the highest-ranked film on this site. My chief complaints: 1) Forced script, 2) Not beautifully filmed, 3) It did not make sense to have a narrated voice over, 4) Totally one-sided presentation of the main moral dilemma. To be fair, Swank was quite good (even though Eastwood was his regular self). The best acting by far was by the woman who played Swank's mother. I was blown away with how realistically she played her role.

Grab your popcorn and your drink and hang on as Clint turns your insides out with this story.

Melodramatic, internally inconsistent, never earns suspension of disbelief.

connie  7

sad but not sure it was worth all the awards.

I am not a Eastwood fan when it comes to movies he has directed. With that said i really liked this movie. The story was good and the acting was excellent. I agree Eastwood and Freeman far outshined Swank. My only beef with this film is my beef with all Eastwood films and that is how he uses the camera. Too many dark shots with either obscured faces or no face. It was cool once, maybe twice but move on with the shadow for effect and find a new gimmick.

A work of art. truly successful. The kind of movie that you dont get tired of seeing again and again. Hits every button on the emotional console. OSCAR all over it. One of the years best!!!!! Everything is just so good about this movie. acted perfectly. The real crime here, would be to miss this spectacular event!!!! SEE IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! truly exhilarating

A WORK OF UTTER MASTERY

etherdust  10

Worth every bit of Oscar hype it got last year. My only (very minor) complaint was that Morgan Freeman played basically the same character in Shawshank Redemption. The world-wise participant turned narrator that guides the main characters toward doing the right thing. Other than that, a great great film with a richness not seen in most movies these days.

Gatita  10

Brave, smart and excellently paced, Eastwood will have you crying like a million-dollar baby by the time the credits roll. A truly exhilarating movie. A simple masterpiece.
