7 Most of the time Anchorman works, and a lot of the time it's very funny.

6 It's a cute, silly, likable movie without much weight or intensity, but it's also pretty funny.

8 This film is more invested in making you laugh at flat-out absurdism than clever irony, and more often than not, it succeeds.

5 ...less of a movie and more of an indulgent frat-boy revue...

6 ...wickedly funny and a first-rate showcase for Ferrell...

7 Although a number of the gags miss the mark, you'll probably be too busy wiping tears of laughter from your eyes to mind.

7 ...a ridiculously stupid but frequently riotous ode to 70s local TV news, workplace diversity, and stupendously inane non-sequiturs.

7 ...plays like loosely strung-together SNL skits that no one gave the slightest thought to developing.

6 It is not as maniacally uninhibited as Old School or as dementedly lovable as Elf, but its cheerful dumbness is hard to resist.

5 As parody, it's toothless and often smug, but as random Ferrellspeak generator, it has its delights.

7 It moves with Simpsons-like swiftness, doling out gag after gag...

8 Remarkably ridiculous without having to go lowbrow (believe us, we know lowbrow when we see it), Anchorman is the silliest thing to happen to news since Fox.

7 ...consistently ridiculous and hysterical, despite its messy mid-movie abandonment of the subject it sets out to parody.

kuene  10

best comedy of the last 5 years. two words: flute solo.

r0der1k  7

Will Farrell reprises his regular buffoon role, and yet it's still mostly hilarious. The Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson, Tim Robbins, and Jack Black cameos and plotlines are duds; Steve Carell and Christina Applegate are outstanding. The film drags a bit toward the end.

stevilbot  8

it's smarmy, sexist and everything that the description says it is. it's also a lot of fun and not to be taken too seriously. you get your money's worth in laughs out of it and you don't feel too horribly insulted.

it's fun, plain and simple.

ppgc  5

Good, but not great. The best part was any Steve Carell appearences. "I'm riding a furry tractor!"

furtive  7

It has its moments, but not amazing.

veenified  6

Some great comedy but the story gets extremely boring and predictable. It was like they had all these jokes and they wanted to put them together so they took an over used story and made it fit the jokes and characters. Definitely not the best comedy of the last 5 years (kuene) and not the best of Will Ferrell, I liked him better in Elf and that is intended for a younger demographic. Shows how immature movies are getting. There are only certian movies that can pull off being immature.

scrappy  1

by far the most boring movie I have seen in years. The scene with stiller, robbins, et. al. has to be the least funny scene in any movie...ever!!!!! Ferrell is no Farley!!!

Jamie  6

Good movie for a laugh. Not Farrel's best movie by far, but many funny moments kept a a giggle going. Worth a rent, but not worth a buy...

jmoeller  5

After 10 minutes I got the point, I'm sure there is plenty of good Ferrell material for the thick skin viewer who continues on.

madmitch  5

Amusing but that was about it. The gang fight between news teams was funny.

Wynns  5

Steve Carell makes it worth watching. Other than that, it's like an SNL skit that tries too hard. If you're in a goofy mood, you'll get a few laughs, but don't expect anything more than standard the standard SNL mediocrity.

crazy  5

I'm sure the people in the movie had a lot of fun making it, but it wasn't as fun to watch. A few laughs, but nothing too remarkable.

cajigas  9

Will Ferrell is in top form for this film. My friends and I have laughed so many times quoting this movie that it's become a part of our vernacular. An instant classic.

figital  3

Almost worthless save the line ... "it smells like Bigfoot's dick".

dack  6

The laughs get fewer and fewer as the movie goes on, and hit a nadir with the bears. Geez. Still some solid chuckes. A worthly late-night HBO choice.

Oracle  7

I agree with furitive.

It is funny but not uncontrolably funny.
