7 Style in Iraq in Fragments comes occasionally close to taking precedence over its heartfelt humanistic intentions, yet the film's deep respect for human resilience and hope ultimately renders cynical accusations of touristy condescension moot.

9 When the war is long gone, this deft construction will persist in relevance, if not for what it says about the mess we once made, then as a model of canny cinematic construction.

9 The first third of Iraq In Fragments is so intense--a masterpiece in miniature, really--that audiences may not have much emotion left for the rest. Three consecutive emotionally wrenching short films are just too hard for any one person to process.

Yet another great documentary of the year, James Longley's masterfully shot and beautifully executed trilogy "Iraq in Fragments", has finaly reached the big screen. Premiered at not only Sundance, but at The Human Rights Watch International Film Festival, (Where it won the Nestor Almendros Prize) Longley has proved his uproaring quality by taking us through the lives of three different religions in Iraq. The film not only demonstrates the 'real' Iraq, but the camera (Shot by James Longeley himself) stays so close to the real humans, and human emotion, that the film becomes more of an expedition of moral resilience than a hard-on documentary. "Iraq in Fragments" should be on everybody's watch list, not only because of the reality shown of Iraq, but because of its stunning cinematogrpahy.
