9 ...one of the year's finest comedies...

9 An uneasy combination of Gattaca and, well, Beavis and Butt-head, Idiocracy is funny but it doesn't always work, unless you take the message seriously… in which case maybe it's not that funny.
Slant Magazine

7 ...too scattershot and compromised to push the conceptual bleakness beyond the realm of lowbrow comedy, though Judge's cultural ire remains bracing throughout: For all the characters' slapsticky imbecility, Judge makes it clear that it's their docile acceptance (read: political inactivity) that makes them true dumbasses.

8 ...is Judge's pitch-black, bleakly hilarious vision of an American future so bespoiled by rapacious corporations and so dumbed-down by junk culture that the president of the United States is a three-time Smackdown! champion and former super porn-star.

5 The movie just feels off.

8 Snide, caustic, and uproariously rude, Idiocracy rivals Borat for fury, Fast Food Nation for outrage, and, at least in the DVD cut, Phat Girlz for sloppiness (to name three other 2006 Fox releases).

9 There's a good chance that Judge's smartly lowbrow Idiocracy will be mistaken for what it's satirizing, but good satire always runs the risk--to borrow a phrase from a poster-boy for the reverse meritocracy--of being misunderestimated.

Starts extremely strongly but slowly runs out of gas as it goes along, a little like Judge's Office Space. Lots of biting social commentary; my favorite is probably the rip on Costco with the greeter saying, "Welcome to Costco. I love you."

All of those great reviews and guess what? This movie really stinks. (Lots of no reviews for this dog, what's up with that?) The characters are all so ridiculous and pathetic that I was unable to care one wit about anyone in this imaginary world of stupid people. A crumby three minute sketch does not a movie make. If you are in the mood for unfunny comedy this is your rental. I would have rather spent the time watching Barney the purple dinosaur. Yeh, it was that bad.

the first 40 minutes were dead-on mike judge with a seriously biting social commentary. with a breeding premise that is frighteningly accurate. especially for anyone that's been to NASCAR country recently.

if only we lived in a world / country where the chess club stars were coming back from chess tournaments screaming at the chess club cheerleaders and the cameras ... i'm gonna **** all o' you! hell yeah!

Funny stuff. So much of it is over the top ridiculous but still so worth a watch for some humourous bits. The prison escape is masterful.

I guess I watched a different version than everyone else. It could have been so much funnier in so many spots. And I'd have to say the last 60 minutes just went on and on and on....

Funny commentary on the direction of society but it could have been made into a 30 minute movie.
