10 Though it's hard not to be partial, Paine largely succeeds in presenting the cold hard facts--and entertains and educates at the same time.

4 ...where An Inconvenient Truth has the information and a bewilderingly-charming Al Gore to supply reasons, Who Killed the Electric Car? has no focus or reason apart from its history lesson.

7 If $3-a-gallon gasoline doesn't make you hate the big oil companies, the shock ing revelations in Chris Paine's thought-provoking documentary Who Killed the Electric Car? will.

6 Impassioned, unwieldy and padded with celebrity interviews, Paine's documentary ends on a surprisingly upbeat note...

7 A documentary about a car may not sound like the most scintillating movie on the planet, but Paine is a skillful storyteller who spins his yarn with surprising humor.

9 A murder mystery, a call to arms and an effective inducement to rage, Who Killed the Electric Car? is the latest and one of the more successful additions to the growing ranks of issue-oriented documentaries.

7 ...a laudably complicated, if emotional and a little comic-book goofy, story of how a confluence of forces -- industry skepticism, trained-seal lobbyists and, last but not least, consumer reluctance -- undermined the future of a quiet little bean of mobile metal that the anointed few who could afford to lease it passionately adored.

7 ...will probably still end up preaching largely to the converted, but it's hard to deny the passion and commitment of any film that can generate real pathos out of footage of cars being destroyed.

6 Like Al Gore's surprise hit, An Inconvenient Truth, this film takes a serious environmental concern and turns it into important--and oddly entertaining--cinema.
Premiere

7 ...may lack the raw anger of [Michael] Moore's work, but it's a more focused documentary that doesn't get hijacked by any on-camera grandstanding.

A pretty shocking tale that shows the complicity of the oil companies, car makers, politicians, and consumers in participating in the end of what could have put the US on top of the heap instead of continuing on a path to destruction in their loaded down Canyoneros. Remember this one people when the price of a gallon of gas catches up to what the rest of the world pays for it.

as a guy who's converted from a gas guzzling cool car to a gas sipping practical car, i speak from the base of my lead foot when i say i wish there was some hard core innovation around fuel efficient vehicles or ZEVs. this was a compelling discussion of what happened to the ZEV cars and how california left its nuts on the table when it cowed to the oil companies and companies that could have actually innovated.
