9 It takes a while to adjust to its rhythm, but the Romanian film The Death of Mr. Lazarescu is a rich, strange and weirdly gratifying odyssey.

7 At 154 minutes, stretches of Death make you feel like you're trapped in a waiting room, but that's partly the point.

8 Above all, The Death of Mr. Lazarescu carries a gentle parable of the delicacy of mortality. We're all going to die and it might not be with our families around us, eyes hidden behind a vest of tears.

4 It's supposed to be about a Kafkaesque experience. Instead, it is a Kafkaesque experience. Why are we here? Is everything absurd? Is anyone in charge?

A Tender, Rich shot at morality

"The Death of Mr. Lazarescu" is a particularly moving film, that is full of everything. Its dialouge is almost flawless; it seems to be perfect for a movie that we cant even understand. The acting is superb; Ion Fiscuteanu, who plays Dante Remus Lazarescu, is a muffled old man who is worried about his ulcer. His well renowned acting skills in Romania work almost perfectly here. the storyline is a little bit slower than I expected, but it is this:

Dante Remus Lazarescu is a retired 63 year old engineer who lost his wife 8 years back. On this eccentric day, Mr. Lazarescu woke up with a head ache, and was also throwing up. "The Death of Mr. Lazarescu" begins with about 15 minutes of slow, solitary dialouge that Mr. Lazarescu provides to himself, and to his cats. He then asks his neighbors for help, and then the story picks up, eventually leading to a lot of hospitals. "The Death of Mr. Lazarescu" is a tender, rich shot at morality. It proclaims itself to be, and evidently is a film portraying the real life. At times it may be slow, but when it really picks up, you start to realize that "The Death of Mr. Lazarescu" is A truly well made film.
