7 Is this movie a parable about 2006, a cautionary tale or a pure fantasy? It can be read many ways, as I will no doubt learn in endless e-mails.

5 ...qualifies as "an uncompromising vision of the future" only if monotony qualifies as a lack of compromise.

8 ...dedicates its energies to expanding deeper, more meaningful messages, remembering almost half-heartedly to include an explosion or two to snap people out of their shock comas.

6 ...ultimately worth seeing, if only for its adamant refusal to play it safe and the passionate commitment that Weaving and Portman bring to their roles.

4 It doesn't rile one up so much as it strokes our myopic egos into submission, distracting us with literal fireworks (à la Romero's Land of the Dead) while its sham creators greedily raid our pockets, hearts, and minds.

5 Everything is connected, but nothing adds up. Ambitious as it is, its inconsistencies bring V for Vendetta down.

5 D is for deep, which V for Vendetta is not -- though it strains mightily to be.

3 ...as an action movie V for Vendetta is a dud -- far too long at nearly two and a half hours, with flat, grungy visuals, choppy editing and no sense of urgency. But as a political work, it's something else -- heavy-handed, reactionary and flat-out stupid.

7 The cautionary political material may seem "daring," but I think it's just an elaborate form of window-dressing for an apocalyptic freak show.

Wow. Intense. From the first explosive scene, I was rivited to my seat. Multiple allusions to literature (Dumas' Monte Cristo) and music (Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture) make this movie that much more fun. Depending on the views of the viewer, the message about government can be a bit sappy, but the movie is still a wild ride. Plus, it's just plain cool to see England as a totalitarian society. I'll admit, I was scratching my head a bit -- just a bit -- at the end, but I don't mind, as it was a blast to discuss the finer points with my friends. See it once with a friend, then see it again (you'll probably want to) with a different friend.

The symobology of the movie was dumbed down to make guessing certain meanings no fun.

point1 I could probably figure out that Natalie Portman's manaical rain scream correlated with V's Fire Scream, without flashing the V scream on and off during the sequence.

point2 It doesn't take a genius to figure out the masks coming off at the end of the movie were like a domino effect started by V. He didn't have to set up an actual Domino push as a precursor. That's just dumb.

Fun but a bit flat. The villians are just too...dumb.

I haven't seen it noted, but John Hurt also played Winston Smith in 1984. Whoa. Deep.

Interesting Marvel comic book rendition on film, however, there are so many holes in the plot that one can not fully enjoy the beautiful cinematography. Fill in some holes by adding 5-10 minutes of film and you go a 9 or better flick.

Fun movie.

This movie made me glad I'm not living in a fundamentalist society that punishes individuality and free thought. It'd be scary to live in a time with secret prisons and suspended civil liberties for the sake of perceived freedom!

Glad this is just fiction!
